HISTORY OF THINKINGOLEM

January-December 1998

Some founders, which worked as information technology researchers for years, start to foster the project of a company working in the domain of Artificial Intelligence, Artificial Life, and Cognitive Science. They start to look for ideal candidates to join an operative team.

June-November 1999

Some founders build a first workgroup on the ThinkinGolem company project, and start a training phase dealing with research and development on little exploratory projects about potential applications of Artificial Intelligence models.

October 1999

The company project ThinkinGolem wins the first prize of the I Edition of the Concourse for Young Companies organized by EduNet/SMAU'99, which was devoted to projects centred on ideas and enterprises of young companies strongly based on New Information Technology. As a result of an article about the prize published upon the Corriere Lavoro, supplement of the newspaper Corriere della Sera several professionists of the Information Technology domain contact ThinkinGolem offering their collaboration to Open Source projects under development.

January-March 2000

Two pilot researches about Artificial Intelligence start within ThinkinGolem, mainly with the purpose of training the company collaborators: a first workgroup starts a preliminary research about the Open Source project DEMONS, while a second group studies the development of an intelligent bot model for Quake III - Arena.

June 2000

Official foundation of ThinkinGolem pscrl.

July 2000

A first issue of the Web site is built.

July-November 2000

ThinkinGolem sells consulting services for software research and development to two high-level customers: for Consorzio per lo Sviluppo delle Metodologie e delle Innovazioni nelle Pubbliche Amministrazioni (MIPA), our company develops a user interface in JavaTM, for the information management system of a Ministry; for Ecobilancio Italia, another Italian company leader in defining management, marketing and environment policy metodologies, our company develops an Excel user interface for a database management.

December 2000

La ThinkinGolem is admitted to a financial support of Comune di Roma devoted to sustain company projects in particular urbanized areas, according to the article 14 of the Italian Law 266/97.

February 2001

The second issue of the ThinkinGolem Web site is released. It is structured in two domains, one devoted to customers interested to services provided by our company, while the other devoted to the Virtual Laboratory grown on the original group of collaborators to the Open Source projects.

February-March 2001

ThinkinGolem continues to work as consultant in software research and development, once more for an important customer as Credito Sportivo (affiliato al CONI), to increase performances of an existing Visual Basic interface software to a database.

March 2001

ThinkinGolem extends the research of business partnerships to the videogame and entertainment software domain, building links with several software houses to research and develop videogames with strong Artificial Intelligence concepts and engines.

April 2001

ThinkinGolem starts to be indexed on the main search engines, according to a common web promotion marketing strategy. Our Web site can be found by the Google search engine, and it is indexed on the Google, Lycos Italy, Lycos UK, and Excite directories, on the Open Directory and more.

June 2001

ThinkinGolem participates together with european research institutions and leader companies to the presentation of projects for technology research and development within the 5th Framework Programme of the European Community, activity which lasts for all 2002.

July-October 2001

ThinkinGolem begins the first phase of research and development of its own technology, named ASH (Activation-based Semantic Hyperspace), for natural language processing in a way independent from the linguistic "platform".

October 2001

ThinkinGolem join the AICA-OpenSource workgroup, devoted to spread Open Source principles and technology.

April-June 2002

ThinkinGolem continues to work as consultant in software research and development, once more for an important customer as the Istituto per il Credito Sportivo (linked to CONI), to develop a supplementary interface and data-mining software in Visual Basic for a database.

May 2002

ThinkinGolem starts the project AdAM devoted to the development of utility and entertainment applications for the domain of mobile devices.

May-July 2002

ThinkinGolem extends the consulting activity to the Air Traffic Management domain, supporting Deep Blue, a new research and technology company interested in human factor analysis in man-machine systems, in increasing features of an existing air traffic simulation platform called EONS, within the european project Mediterranean Free Flight.

July-September 2002

The alfa and beta issues of the first entertainment applications for mobile devices within the project AdAM are built. An advanced test phase on micro-devices is started.

September 2002

The results of the first research phase within the project ASH are presented in a seminar of the Master in Sources and Methods for Social Research, Faculty of Statistics, University of Rome "La Sapienza", gaining great consents.

October 2002

The consulting activity of ThinkinGolem for the Istituto per il Credito Sportivo (linked to CONI), is extended, from the development of software for databases, to the full IT management of the Census on Sports Complexes.

November 2002

The current issue of the ThinkinGolem Web site is released. The main feature of this issue is an increased usability obtained by working on colors, fonts, effects and site structure.
