THE OPEN SOURCE AREA OF THE VIRTUAL LABORATORY

The first Open Source project that will be activated by ThinkinGolem is DEMONS (standing for "DEcision-Making OrgaNizerS"), an agent-based general-purpose application for decision support, characterized by customisable features and provided with a simple graphical user interface. Our purpose is to develop a software product that could be used to evaluate any process or system, ranging from diagnosis processes to reliability control in safety-critical systems.

Current decision support systems are too customized for specific purposes and too expensive to be accessible to the most part of Information Technology users, while there is an increasing need for intelligent support in decision. For this reason the developed software will be spread FREEWARE to the benefit of the whole information community.

The official language of the project is English. Participation is opened to anyone who is interested in it and who possess the following skills:

• object-oriented designing and/or programming (OOP);
• at least a good level in reading and writing English.

Further skills, like the following, are welcome:

• knowledge, designing or programming of Artificial Intelligence and Artificial Life systems;
• software designing or developing;
• Java^TM programming;
• teamwork organization and management.

Once joined, participants will be get into the mailing list of the project by mean of which they'll be informed about organization, topics, aims, means, models and theories, teamwork, tasks, milestones, and so on.
